PROCEDURE for making an appointment for an aviation medical at this practice
When considering making an appointment for an Aviation Medical at this practice, we recommend the following requirements:
(STEP 1) Make a CASA Online Application
Please make sure you have made an application for a medical certificate ONLINE at the CASA. This applies to both NEW and RENEWAL aviation medicals. Information is available from CASA.
https://www.casa.gov.au/licences-and-certificates/aviation-medicals
Here is a guide to the process for applying to CASA.

(STEP 2) Please make an appointment at our practice by telephone contact
. (a) Have available your ARN (aviation reference number)
. (b) Please advise our receptionist the class of medical being applied for:
Class 1 - Airline Transport Pilot Licence, Commercial Pilot Licence, Flight Engineer or Flight Navigator.
Class 2 - Student Pilot, Private Pilot, Commercial Pilot Balloons, Flight Radio Operator.
Class 3 - Air Traffic Controller, Flight Service Officer.
Driver’s licence (aviation medical) Class - recreational aviation medical with restrictions.
- please refer to this page.
. (c) Bring to your appointment official Photo ID such as your driver's licence, or passport
. (d) If you are attending for a renewal of your aviation medical certification, please bring your old medical certificate. Pilots with an expired medical for longer than 3 months are still required to bring their old medical certificate.
. (e) Interval requirements & Medical conditions
For Class I and III, and those pilots with pre-existing medical conditions who CASA requires interval investigations/tests, it would make submission of your medical information more efficient if you have these performed in an appropriate time frame before, and have them available prior to your renewal examination. Please contact the practice for these requirements. We recommend that you have these age related interval tests completed prior to your appointment to avoid delays in the submission of your medical to CASA.
An example of a common extra investigation that may be required with later age are a stress ECG/echocardiogram, audiogram, or specialist eye examination.
(STEP 3) Important notes
. (a) If you wear glasses, spectacles for visual correction (reading, distance), please bring both pairs of glasses (normal use, and spare pair).
. (b) It is a requirement that you consent and disclose all medical conditions, medical procedures, and surgical operations including minor procedures. It would make the assessment process quicker and easier if you obtain and bring with you any relevant and up to date medical reports to the consultation.
Further information regarding aviation medical requirements are available on the CASA web site here.
